I am a descendant of the 4th France-USA emigration and the creator of this Web site. I live with my wife, Sally Guy, in Boston where I work as a computer programmer. Sally and I have been to France a number of times and have visited the family of Guy Barbaras in La Farlède (near Toulon), the Kunnemann family in Ostheim, the Kleindiensts in Zellenberg, and the family of Fernand Barbaras in Beblenheim.
In 1991, there was no web, no Google, little email, and no ancestry.com. Among the four generations of my lineage here in the United States there had never been any apparent interest paid to detailing or even acknowledging our origins. I had not the slightest interest in genealogy. I did not know that there were other Barbarases in the United States and France. That all changed in 1991 when Guy Barbaras was visiting San Francisco and found the name of my brother, David, in the phone book. Much of what I now know about my family's history, my interest in genealogy, and all my subsequent research stem from Guy's work, done in those primitive days with books, physical documents, pencil and paper, and miles of travel.
