Jeanne Kunnemann & Family

The family of Jeanne (Barbaras) Kunnemann is apparently the last remaining Barbaras family in Ostheim. For an American like me, this continuous habitation of one small village by one family, for most of 400 years, and possibly beyond, is simply stunning. Jeanne and her husband, Hermann, have two sons, Pierre and Michel. Michel and his wife, Maryline Labranche have just had their first child, Emilie, and have purchased the house owned by their grandparents, Charles Barbaras et Salomé Heim.
My great-grandfather, David Barbaras, and Jeanne's great-grandfather, Jean Barbaras, were brothers. When Sally and I visited the family in 1995, we were struck by the resemblance between her son Pierre and me. |
La famille de Jeanne (Barbaras) Kunnemann est apparemment la dernière famille Barbaras qui reste à Ostheim. Pour un américain comme moi, cette habitation en continue d'un petite village par une seule famille pendant la plupart de 400 ans, et peut-être plus, est tout simplement étonnant. Jeanne et son mari, Hermann, ont deux fils, Pierre et Michel. Michel et sa femme, Maryline Labranche, viennent d'avoir leur première enfant, Emilie, en juin 1999, et ont acheté la maison des parents de Jeanne: Charles Barbaras et Salomé Heim.
Mon arriére grand-père, David Barbaras, et celui de Jeanne, Jean Barbaras, étaient frères. Lorsque Sally et moi avons rendu visite à la famille en 1995, nous étions choqués par la ressemblance entre son fils, Pierre, et moi. |
