Emigration #1, 1845; Ostheim to Long Grove, Illinois
Home > Emigrations > USA #1
The 1845 emigration of Jacob Barbaras and his two daughters, Salomé and Magdelena, was the first of four from Ostheim, France to the United States. The first three emigrations (1845, 1847, 1853) were of siblings who settled in Long Grove, Illinois (Lake County), a destination for Protestant Alsatians. When the family of George Barbaras (1847), Jacob's younger brother, left for Minnesota in 1865 they journeyed with Johann Carl, a son of Jacob's daughter, Madeleine, and her husband Michael Bollenbach. There are no descendants bearing the Barbaras name.
