The emigration of Jacob Barbaras and his two daughters was the first of four from Ostheim, France to the United States. The three settled in Long Grove, Illinois (Lake County) where they were followed, in 1847 and 1853, by several of Jacob's siblings. Johann Carl, a son of daughter Madeleine and husband Michael Bollenbach, left for Minnesota with the family of his uncle, George Barbaras. There are no descendants bearing the Barbaras name.

L'émigration de Jacob Barbaras et ses deux filles a été la première d'Ostheim, France aux Etats-Unis. Les trois se sont installés à Long Grove, Illinois et ont été suivis, en 1847 et 1853, par quelques frères et soeurs de Jacob. Johann Carl, un petit-fils Madeleine et mari, Michael Bollenbach, est parti en Minnesota avec la famille de son oncle, George Barbaras. Il n'y a pas de descendants en vie du nom Barbaras.
